   MUSICAL BIOGRAPHY OF IMPERIAL CHI

ORIGIN

The beginnings of what would become the basis for the “Group” IMPERIAL CHI began in the mid 80s with an instrumental composed by Anwar Bilal Kinte that was untitled until a member of the

organization he was with at the time heard it and remarked “Turn up that Truth”. With that remark, the name was given to this piece of music which I would describe as Dance Music. I would not call it Disco, but it had those danceable, upbeat, repetitious elements found in that Genre. In early 2020, at the beginning of the COVID-related Quarantine, Anwar got together with one of his former Yoga Teachers, Sam Bottner, who is a Musician/Producer in his own right. Based on the Original Master Tapes, Sam added a freshly-updated treatment to the foundational rhythms and percussion. Anwar’s solo piano, which is uncomplicated, gave a backdrop and underlay for the Kundalini Yoga chant of SAT NAM, which means Truth is My Identity.

Plans are made for TWO ALBUMS to be released in 2022, featuring Sat Kriya, various Chants, and related subject matter, with Yoga, Meditation and matters of Spirituality being at the forefront.
